About us

The main role of Manawatu Wanganui Golf is to encourage active participation of golfers through all levels of the game, within our district. This includes:

• assisting clubs to attract new players to golf
• participation either casually or in events at clubs throughout our district
• interclub/pennant competition
• representation in inter-district or national level competition

Manawatu Wanganui provides the following services:

Administration Assistance for clubs:

• Partner Club programme – Helping clubs engage with the Community
• Sourcing information on request
• Meetings and advice – Individually with clubs on request
  

Promotion of Golf:

• Information Website
• Providing information to newspapers

Pennants and District Tournaments:

• Administration of Men’s and Women’s District Interclub Competitions
• Administration and running of Challenge Cup (MWG Strokeplay Champs)
• Administration of Local Order of Merit
• Administration and running of Chamberlain Shield & Women’s Champion of Champions
• Administration and running of Glendinning Cup
• Administration of tournaments on behalf of NZ Golf – Junior Tiger Regional

Representative Golf:

Men: Toro Interprovincial,  Men’s Freyberg Masters, Junior Interprovincial, Shand Cup and Shand Salver, Wellington Match, Central Nth Island Quadrangular, SBS Invitational, Junior Development Quadrangular.

Women: Toro Women’s Interprovincial, Women’s Master’s, Sybil Green, Wellington Match, Hawkesbay Match, Taranaki Match

• Organize and attend representative matches
• Select and manage teams
• Host representative matches
• Arrange travel and accommodation
• Provide uniforms and equipment

Junior Services:

• KiwiGolf presentation in schools with links to clubs
• Assisting clubs with development of Junior Programmes
• Running school event days at clubs
• Administration and running of Junior Tournaments (JTS, Junior Pennants, Intercollegiate, Age Group Champs, OOM Series) 

Player Development:

• Team development squad days
• Eagles Academy (Junior Development)

Course Rating:

• Rating of all golf courses (4 to 5 year rotation)

Representation:

• New Zealand Golf
• Golf Managers Association

• Member levies
• Eagles Golfing Society Junior Academy Grant
• Funding applications made to various trusts and pub charities
• Other fundraising activities, ie Fundraising tournament
• Sponsorship
