It has been a busy few days for competition golf within the Manawatu Wanganui District culminating in the final of multiple divisions in Pennants.
Women's National Teams.
The Pahiatua team of Margaret Alding, Pam Huddleston, Tracey Crispin, and Rona Squires won the National Team for the Manawatu Wanganui District with a Net of 135.
Men's Handicap Pennants.
In a final, that was played in good spirits and sportsmanship, between Palmerston North and Manawatu, a sudden-death playoff was needed to separate the teams. Manawatu prevailed on the first extra hole.
Men's C Grade.
Waimarino made the trip to play Rangitikei at Feilding Golf Club. Their trip proved worthwhile as they overturned the morning foursomes deficit to run out winners 6 - 3.
Men's B Grade.
Wanganui completed an undefeated season and saw off Marton 7 - 2. Wanganui took a 3 - 0 lead into the afternoon and was never seriously threatened.
Manawatu left themselves in a difficult position after falling behind Wanganui in the morning foursomes. However, they turned this around and won both singles matches to clinch the pennant. The final round acted as a sudden death final with both Wanganui and Manawatu going into the match undefeated.
Men's A Grade
Feilding won its first A Grade Pennant since 1969 by defeating defending champions Manawatu 7-2. The score was an exact reversal of the score when the teams met in the round-robin match earlier in the year. Feilding took a 2 1/2 - 1/2 point lead into the afternoon. Things remained tight through the front nine before Feilding pulled away for the win.
