The 2021 Secondary School Tournament was held on Thursday 1st April at Marton Golf Club. A total of 56 players took part in the event, which is the largest participation number in over 5 years, which was great to see.
Palmerston North Boys High School contributed over 30 of the players, and also dominated the trophy winners. As expected their A team of Remy Early, Kieran Giddens, Fred McVerry and Kaleb Fagan won the main teams gross trophy, and qualify to represent Manawatu Wanganui in the next stage of the National Secondary Schools competition. Remy Early (74) also won the Boys individual gross, from Feilding High Schools, Ryan Rooney (76).
Feilding High School's, Caitlyn Wray, was the only girl playing in this years event, so was awarded the girls trophy for 2021. Her 94 was a good score on the tough Marton layout.
The team net competition was taken out by Cornerstone Christian School by a healthy margin, helped by a solid net 69 from Jerome Robinson. The other team members were Oliver and Liam Southall, and Fynn Cranshaw.
The individual net winner was a tie between two Palmerston North Boys High School players, Fletcher Carpenter and Orlando Ratima, with net 68's.
Six players also competed in a 9 hole participation event this year which was great to see.
