Manawatu's Ewan Westergaard has won the Mortgage Link Manawatu Open at his home course on Sunday after rounds of 69 and 73. Second was NZ Rep Tyler Hodge, who won last weeks Stewart Gold Cup in Auckland. Tyler has rounds of 76 and 69. Lachie McDonald finished third with rounds of 75 and 71.
Ewan this year has made himself unavailable for rep play, after many years of playing for Manawatu Wanganui. His experience has certainly left a gap in the team this year.
The Women's section was won by Castlecliff's Anber-Rose Thompson-Newth after rounds of 79 and 76. Manawatu's Emma Clayton and Levin's Brydie Hodge shared second 2 shots back. This was the first win for Amber-Rose in one of our Order of Merit events and confirms Amber-Rose as one of the top 3 players for this years Interprovicial event to be played at Muriwai in December.
The event attracted 86 competitors, with some competitors travelling from Wellington. Played in fine conditions, with just a steady breeze, the course still proved to be a challenge for most players.
This was the final event played in this years rep OOM.
