Lachie McDonald from Marton Golf Club has continued his great form by winning the Wanganui Open by a massive 11 shots, with an impressive 10 under par total. After shooting a 6 under par 64 in the morning, Lachie backed this up with a 4 under par 66 in the afternoon. For Lachie backing up with a 66 was even more satisfying than the morning round. After winning the Waikato Winter Strokeplay four weeks ago there is no doubt that Lachie is one of the form players in New Zealand at the present time.
Second in the mens section was Stu Duff from Hastings with a 1 over par total after rounds of 71 and 70. NZ Rep Josh Munn finished another shot back at 2 over par. Masters player Stuart Smith (+3), was the next best player, followed by Malcolm Wells, Mike Birchall, Guy Perry and Junior Tatana all at plus 5 for the day.
In the womens division Levin's Bydie Hodge continued her good run in local events with a huge 14 shot victory with rounds of 76 and 73. Manawatu's Emma Clayton was second with rounds of 82 and 81.
The day was played in ideal conditions, with just a light Wanganui breeze, and warm winter temperature reaching 18 degrees. Most years the event is played in more challenging conditions. 82 players competed this year.
