The Manawatu Wanganui Junior teams have both made very good starts today at the Junior Interprovincial tournaments.
The boys team playing in Cambridge have won both of their opening day matches, 5 - 1 over Taranaki in the morning, and 4 - 2, against Otago in the afternoon. Bradley McSherry, Cameron Giddens, Ethan Ward and Remy Early all won both of their matches today, and Anthony Ilton-Maher had a win against Taranaki. Keiran Giddens and Jackson Dreliozis shared the number 6 playing position today and while both had losses, they are inexperienced at this level, and this event is simply a learning experience for them.
The girls team playing in Rotorua also made a good start to the event with two 3 all draws. In the morning they took on the defending champions North Harbour, so a 3 all draw was a great result. In the afternoon they repeated that result against Bay of Plenty Yellow. In tough weather conditions Lily Griffin and Sera Raj had two wins each, and Tori Maraku won her morning match, while Katherine Paskins won her afternoon match 6/5. Number 1, Zhuoyi Hu, played well, but lost narrowly 1 down to both her high quality opponents. Natalie Lyttle, in her first event of this type, played well, but in the end had to settle for two losses. For Natalie and Tori at their first interprovincial event, this is a learning experience for them, and the only expectation on them is about enjoying their golf.
Tomorrow, both the boys and girls take on Canterbury, before getting the afternoon off to enjoy some local attractions.
Well done today, and all the best tomorrow, and the remainder of the events.
