Challenge Cup Preview & Draw

The Manawatu Wanganui 36 Hole Open - Challenge Cup tournament is being played this Sunday at Feilding Golf Club. Among the entrants are most of the 2019 representative players, so it should be a hotly contested event.

Following this event Manawatu Wanganui selectors will be using recent results to select their squads to play in the Shand Cup and Sybil Green events to be held at Wanganui Golf Club this year in October.

Among the favourites for Sunday's men's title will be defending champion, Liam Finlayson, and the very consistent Junior Tatana. Other players that are likely to contest include Regan McConaghty, Ewan Westergaard, former Manawatu Wanganui interprovincial reps, Riki Kauika, Hayden Ring & Josh Sedgwick, Wellington rep, Cam Elers, or perhaps one of the younger players Anthony Ilton-Maher, Bradley McSherry or Ryan Rooney, who have all been playing some very good golf recently. Other players will also be out to impress selectors. A few players have chosen to play the Bay of Plenty Open which doubles as the North Island Strokeplay in Whakatane. Those players are Tyler Hodge, Trent Munn, Reid Perry and Brydie Hodge representing the women.

In the women's field for the Challenge Cup, Tara Raj will start as a hot favourite, but should expect strong opposition from players such as Zhuoyi Hu, Lisa Herbert & Lily Griffin.

Tara has recently been selected to represent NZ at the Jack Newton Junior International being held in New South Wales, Australia, in early October, so will no doubt be preparing her game ready for that event.

We wish all players competing on Sunday all the best for a fun day of golf.
