Pennants Series heats up

With one round remaining in the pennant series positions onto the semis and home course advantage have been thrown wide open after a number of surprise results and an overall tight competition.

A Grade sees Levin, Manawatu and Feilding assured of semi final positions but who will eventually get the all important home course advantage is still up in the air. If Levin wins against Palmerston North they are guaranteed the number 1 seed but Palmerston North will not lay down as their position in the final four is not yet guaranteed. A loss to Levin opens the door for Marton (playing Feilding at Feilding) to leapfrog into 4th position. So semi-final teams come down to the results from the Levin v Palmerston North and Marton v Feilding matches.

Relegation has heated up with Wanganui's Round 6 victory over Palmerston North. Looking like the likely team to go down they now have a lifeline before their final round match up against Manawatu. Tied on 3 points with Taihape and Tawhero (who play each other in the final round) but ahead on individual games (27.5, 25.5 & 22.5 respectively), a number of mathmatical options exist. Should Wanganui lose to Manawatu they will be relying on a big margin of victory in the other relevant relegation match to ensure they do not get overtaken in the tie breaking individual games.

B Grade sees Foxton and Castlecliff guaranteed of semi berths with the last two positions down to the Hawkestone v Feilding B match (If Hawkestone win then they and Buckley join the final four) but should they lose to Feilding B, then Buckley needs to win to guarantee a final four spot with Feilding B, Foxton and Castlecliff. Should Buckley loss in this instance the last position will come down to their individual games tally compared with Hawkestone.
