Manawatu Wanganui representatives Tara Raj and Tyler Wood have both finished in 4th place in their respective U19 North Island Championships.
Wanganui's Tara Raj had a good final round with a second straight 3 under par 70 played at Riverside Narrows Golf Club, moving up 4 spots. The event was won by Jeong Hyun Lee, a member of Christchurch Golf Club. Looking at the NZ Golf scoring records it seems that Lee bases herself in Christchurch during the NZ summer only. The other 2 players finishing ahead of Raj, are also only based in NZ during our Summer. This seems to be a common trend for some overseas players, particularly from Korea. These golfers provide a very good benchmark for our homegrown players to compare themselves against in terms of development.
Manawatu's Tyler Wood, slipped back a place after a final round 75 at Hamilton Golf Club in the Boys competition. That event was taken out by Christchurch's Kazuma Kabori at 10 under, 5 shots ahead of second placed Sul Im.
Other local players to perform well include Zhouyi Hu, finishing 12th in the girls event, while Anthony Ilton-Maher was the next best Manawatu Wanganui player in the boys event in 21st position. Kaleb Idemaru, Remy Early, Ryan Rooney, and Ethan Dodds, all survived the second round cut.
