Manawatu Wanganui representative players Tara Raj and Greg Shaw both had Top 10 finishes at the NZ U19 champs played in Hastings last week.
Tara Raj who plays for the Wanganui Golf Club finished in 7th place with consistent rounds throughout the event of 75, 76 & 77. The winner, Ayean Cho, finished on 14 under par, 5 shots ahead of the nearest rival, Amelia Garvey. For Raj, at just 14 years of age, this is her best finish in a national U19 event, and still has a number of years left in which to challenge for that title.
Greg Shaw, was very much in contention for the boys title heading into the final round, after a second round 4 under 68. Just 1 shot behind eventual winner Mako Thompson heading into the final round, Shaw could not get things going in that round eventually carding a 78, to fall back into 8th place.
Feilding's Liam Finlayson playing in his final U19 event, was also close to the lead heading into the final round after 2 rounds of 73, however also could not get things going in the final round and carded a 79.
Other local boys competing in the event were Ethan Dodds, Kaleb Idemaru, Bradley McSherry & Ryan Rooney all missing the cut after 2 rounds.
Mudra Lakhani was the only other Manawatu Wanganui Girl competing and had rounds of 85, 86 & 84 to be back in 40th place.
