The Manawatu Wanganui Toro team plus 2 juniors are to take on Taranaki in a friendly practice match in New Plymouth this Sunday. The match was arranged to replace the loss of the SBS tournament, and this years match against Bay of Plenty.
It will also provide good preparation for the Toro Squad members as the match is being held at New Plymouth Golf Club, where the Toro will start on November 29. Therefore Junior Tatana, Regan Cording, Greg Shaw and Tane North will get a great look at the course while competing under matchplay pressure over 2 rounds. Unfortunately the other 2 squad members, Regan McConaghty & Mike Atkins, are both unavailable for the match, so have been replaced for this weekend by Rhys Watkins and Guy Perry, whom both know the course very well as former members. They have an opportunity of passing on some of their knowledge of the course to the Toro team.
As an extra for the event, 2 juniors were included, to compete against 2 Taranaki juniors. Most of our more experienced juniors, including Liam Finlayson, were unavailable this weekend, therefore young up and coming players, Bradley McSherry and Anthony Ilton-Maher will get some valuable match experience away with the team.
We wish the team all the best in New Plymouth.
Greg Shaw is one of 3 players who will make their debut in New Plymouth at the Toro Interprovincial this year. Regan McConaghty and Tane North are also in the team for the first time.
