The NZ Golf National Boys and Girls Champs is into its final day in Nelson today. The best of the Manawatu Wanganui players in the Boys event is Feilding's, Liam Finlayson who made the cut after rounds of 75 & 72. Manawatu's Greg Shaw also made the cut with rounds of 77 & 74. Both players will be hoping for a strong finish to move up the leaderboard. Waikato's Charlie Smail, son of Japan based kiwi professional David Smail was leading going into the final round at -9 after great rounds of 68 & 65.
Manawatu players, Campbell McHugh, Jamie Connell, Tim Berry and Steven Bamford all missed the cut, and will not contest the final day.
In the Girls section Tara Raj got off to a good start with a 3 over par 75 in round 1, but slipped off the pace with an 83 in round 2. Canterbury's Hillary O'Connor lead the event going into the final round at -7 (69,70), with a few players hot on her heels.
Manawatu's Mudra Lakhani is the only other Manawatu Wanganui player and shot rounds of 85 & 83.
