The 2nd of the district order of merit series events, the Ricoh Wanganui Open is to be played this Sunday at Wanganui's Belmont course.
A field of 82 players were entered as at close off time, and the club will take late entries this week. With the weather forecast looking pretty good for the weekend a few extra's might wish to try and get into the event. Just ring the club on 06 349 0559.
The field includes most of the regular rep trialists from throughout the district. The womens field has low number this year, and the player looking most likely is Wanganui's own Tara Raj. Tara is now number 1 for the Manawatu Wanganui and won the weather affected Horowhenua Open a few weeks ago. She may be difficult to beat on her home course, but a few other players will be out to win also.
The mens field is a lot more difficult to try and predict. Palmerston North's Regan Cording will be back to try and repeat his win from last year, where he defeated Lachie McDonald on the first playoff hole with a birdie. Foxton's Junior Tatana has won the event before, and will be amonst the favourites along with Hayden Ring, Guy and Reid Perry, Waiouru's Tane North, and a few younger players including Greg Shaw and Liam Finlayson.
We wish all the players competing on Sunday all the best for an enjoyable and successful event.
