The 2016 HMC Horowhenua Open was played yesterday at Levin Golf Club, however was reduced to an 18 hole event due to dangerous weather conditions. Throughout the morning golfers experienced heavy horizontal showers, and even some thunder. By the time the morning round was complete the wind had brought down some large branches forcing organisers to cancel round 2.
A number of players had already picked up during round 1, and most players probably welcomed the decision to cut the event back to one round.
In the mens event Tony Chettleburgh and Junior Tatana had the lowest score with 75, however Chettleburgh was declared the winner on countback. Tatana unfortunately finished with a triple bogey on his final hole, the 17th, after also recording a double bogey on 15.
The women's event was won by Wanganui's Tara Raj with an 82.
Well done to all players that took part, and completed the round.
Unfortunately the conditions did not make things easy for selectors who were trying to pick the teams to compete against Wellington at the same venue in 2 weeks.
