The men's pennant competitions got underway around the district on Sunday, in very hot dry conditions. The A grade and Palmanui were played at Feilding Golf Club, B Grade was played at Waimarino, and the Handicap grade at Castlecliff.
In the A grade there were no major surprises, with Feilding defeating Taihape, Manawatu defeating Castlecliff, & Palmerston North defeating Foxton. The final game had Wanganui defeating Levin, which was probably the one match that was more difficult to predict.
In the Palmanui, Manawatu defeated Levin, and Palmerston North defeated Wanganui. Feilding had the bye.
In the B Grade, Marton Golf Club have made a good start in a bid to get back in to the A Grade. They defeated Tawhero in round 1, and Linton Camp in round 2, to go straight to the top of the table. Other winners in round 1 were home team Waimarino over Hawkestone, and Waiouru over Rangitikei, with Linton Camp having the bye. In round 2 the other winners were Hawkestone over Rangitikei and Tawhero over Waiouru.
And in the Handicap Pennant competition round one winners were Castlecliff over Feilding, Foxton over Wanganui, Rangatira over Levin, Marton and Pahiatua halved, and Palmerston North over Manawatu. Round 2 results were Castlecliff over Wanganui, Marton over Manawatu, Feilding over Rangatira, Foxton over Palmerston North, and Pahiatua over Levin. At these early stages Foxton and Castlecliff lead on the maximum 6 points. This competition is expected to be very close fought.
