The Manawatu Wanganui mens team finished well down the order in 10th place at the SBS Invitational in Invercargill over the weekend. Conditions particularly on day one were very difficult with strong winds making it tough for all competitors. The Manawatu Wanganui team got off to a very bad start in round one, but did bounce back to record the best afternoon round team total.
Number 1 Lachie McDonald played very well to finish 4th individual. After an opening round 79, McDonald fired 72, 69 and 71, to finish just 4 shots back from Tasman's Ryan Chisnall. The other 4 Manawatu Wanganui players, Hayden Ring, Regan Cording, Josh Sedgwick and Junior Tatana, all had mediocre results, but would have learnt lots heading into the Toro Interprovincial which starts at the same venue in 2 weeks. The rough was of particular concern for many players, as it was long and lush making it particularly difficult when missing greens.
Great news for Manawatu Wanganui is that Josh Munn will be competing at the Toro, providing strength to the top order.
Otago was the run away winner of the SBS team event.
