The next event on the Manawatu Wanganui Golf Order of Merit series is the Ricoh Wanganui Open on Sunday August 23. Entries for the event are currently being taken online on this website, or directly through the Wanganui Golf Club.
As at the end of last week the tournament had attracted about 64 entrants, with further entries coming in daily. Most of Manawatu Wanganui's elite representatives will be competing, including 2013 champion Lachie McDonald, who scorched the course with a 10 under par total on that occasion. Current mens gross and net OOM leader Hayden Ring (winner of the Horowhenua Open) will also make the trip north from Wellington to compete.
The event is open to Men and Women, and with 2 mens divisions, we encourage anyone wanting to give 36 holes a go, to get their entry in. The net Order of Merit is open to Manawatu Wanganui club member's with a handicap of 24.0 or less.
The Wanganui Open traditionally provides a tough playing test for competitors, as the difficult Belmont layout demands both a solid long and short game, particularly when the wind blows. Do both of those well, and competitors should be able to get amongst the excellent prize table which the event will have on offer.
There are still plenty of spots available for both men and women to enter, so if you are considering playing, either contact Wanganui Golf Club, or enter online at http://www.mwga.co.nz/2015_Wanganui_Open. Entry closes this coming Monday at 5pm.
