Former Manawatu Wanganui rep Hayden Ring took out the Horowhenua Open mens title yesterday at Levin Golf Club, by one shot over Regan Cording. Rings rounds were 69 and 70 for a 5 under par total. Cording had rounds of 71 and 69. The next best was Manawatu Wanganui Masters player, Stu Smith on level par with 2 rounds of 72, tied with guest player, and new professional Tyler Hodge with rounds of 69 and 75.
In the Womens section Levin player Brydie Hodge again claimed the title with rounds of 77 and 74, and was 6 shots clear of Amber-Rose Thompson-Newth (78,79). Both Brydie and Amber-Rose are heading to the US next month after accepting University golf scholarships. Both will be missed at rep level.
The next best of the women was Karen Manninen with rounds of 80 and 79, followed by up and coming 12 year old junior Tara Raj with 81 and 83.
Weather conditions were ideal throughout, with just a small amount of light rain at the end of the day. The course was presented very well for this time of year, with the greens running true and at a good speed.
Congratulations to the Levin Golf Club, all the organisers and helpers for putting on another excellent event.
