Rep fundraiser a great success

Yesterday at Feilding Golf Club, Manawatu Wanganui Golf ran the annual Rep Fundraiser tournament this year sponsored by Tranzit Coachlines and Cross Country Rentals, along with a host of Hole and prize sponsors. Twenty eight teams of 3 were randomly drawn a rep player to compete with, in the Am-Am style format. The live draw is one of the unique aspects of the event as teams await which they are drawn with. With a few real drawcards in Josh Munn, Tyler Hodge, Lachie McDonald and Brydie Hodge, this was an opportunity for club players in the Manawatu to compete alongside the districts top players.

The event raises funds toward representative expenses so we can continue to send teams to events throughout the country. For the rep players this event is great way for them to give something back to the district by helping raise funds. Each rep player was asked to contribute by arranging a team to compete, or finding prizes to donate to the team prize table. We were close to getting enough prizes for nearly everyone to take home something.  Team prizes included jewellery and watches from Christies Jewellers, grocery hampers, many vouchers for rounds of golf, cafes etc, shirts, caps, umbrellas, towels, blankets and socks plus many more. We had some great special prizes as well, including a $100 pro shop voucher for closest to the pin, A Bushnell Rangefinder donated by Golf Distributors, which was drawn from all the players that trialed the rangefinder out on the course, meat raffles, and a great Taupo Golf Experience (including a round for 2 at Kinloch, Wairakei and a nights accommodation & breakfast at Wairakei Resort, as the main raffle prize.

The day was a great success, and even the dodgy weather pattern we are experiencing at present co-operated to some extent, apart from a bit of wind to contend with. As far as results go, the SI Atkins & Associates 2 team captained by Mike Atkins, with rep player Regan McConaghty won the team section on countback. The Bushnell Rangefiner draw was won by Dianne Brown from Palmerston North Golf Club, and Manawatu's Keith Laracy won the main raffle prize for Taupo golf experience.

On behalf of the Manawatu Wanganui Golf Association we would like to thank everyone that took part in the day, including sponsors, the Feilding Golf Club, the entrants, rep players, and volunteers. Too many to name individually but a huge thanks to you all.
