Perry best at Egmont Champs

A group of 8 Manawatu Wanganui players travelled to Stratford to compete in the Taranaki Golf Tour, Egmont Champs on Sunday. Best of the Manawatu Wanganui players was Guy Perry, who came storming back from a mediocre 78 in round one, to record the tournament low round of 66 in round 2. Guy finished his round with 3 birdies and an eagle over his closing 5 holes. His even par total was good enough for 2nd place just behind the well performed Taranaki number 1, Brad Hayward. Brad finished 2 under par with rounds of 68 & 74. Ewan Westergaard finished 1 shot back of Perry in 3rd place with rounds of 72 & 73. The next best of the Manawatu Wanganui players was Rhys Watkins (75 & 75) & Stu Smith (77 & 73) who tied a few places further down the field. In the womens competition Amber-Rose Thompson-Newth fired rounds of 81 & 76 to finish in 2nd place behind Taranaki rep Celeste McLean.

In return for the Manawatu Wanganui players travelling to Stratford, Taranaki Golf will be sending up to 10 players to the Manawatu Open in October.
