The New Zealand Boys and Girls Age Group Champs are currently taking place at Taupo Golf Club. The event is played over 3 rounds with a cut made after 2 rounds in the Boys field. Manawatu Wanganui has a good contingent of players competing, and after 2 rounds have had some mixed results.
In the Girls Levins, Brydie Hodge, heads into the final round tied for 6th spot after rounds of 76 & 74. Hodge is 6 shots behind the leader Hillary O'Connor, from Canterbury, at even par. A good round today should see Brydie finish high up in this event. Our other Manawatu Wanganui representative is promising 11 year old Tara Raj, from Wanganui. On day one Tara shot one of her best ever rounds of 84, and backed that up with an 83 on day 2. Off a 16 handicap, I think we can all agree that Tara is performing extremely well. She sits 5th in the U13 section, which has a number of very talented girls trying to follow in the footsteps of Lydia Ko.
The best of the boys after 2 rounds is Manawatu's Josh Sedgwick with rounds of 72 & 76. Josh is 5 shots back from a group of 4 players at -1. Josh has followed up from a good performance at the NZ Secondary Schools event played on Monday, where he finished second individual with rounds of 73 & 68. Jayden Hunter from Feilding started with an outstanding 2 under par 70, to be in 2nd place after round one. Unfortunately Jayden slipped down the leaderboard with an 81 in round 2. However Jayden makes the cut along with Josh Sedgwick, Nic Quantock-Holmes (75, 78), Michael Birchall (78, 76), Rhys Harold (79, 76) & Liam Finlayson (77, 80)
